NADA Miami 2011

"The absurd is the essential concept and the first truth"--Albert Camus
Big Screen Plaza is pleased to announce The First Truth - a video program that will premiere at NADA’s Miami Art Fair, via the hotel’s flat screens and in-room hotel channel. It will also screen in May 2012 at the Big Screen Plaza in NYC. All of the works explore notions of the absurd through pop culture, science fiction, dreams and/or re-imaginings of real life events. Some of the highlights of this program are Mika Rottenberg’s 5 Second Party, a brief video featuring a woman with a gravity defying ponytail and a blindfolded man on a couch; Desiree Holman’s, I Would Do Almost Anything That You Asked Me to Do… in which the artist awkwardly dances with performers in gendered male latex suits; and Shana Moulton’s The Sentimental Futurist, where the artist recreates a lost scene from a futurist film using pastel colors, illogical melting effects, and a keen sense of humor. Lynn Hershman’s alter ego Roberta Breitmore also makes an appearance in the historical video Lynn Turning into Roberta, an exciting work in this eclectic program.
